Course Options
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is recommended that learners have successfully completed the IAB Level 3 Certificate in Bookkeeping and Accounting, as this provides the essential knowledge and skills needed to progress effectively onto Level 4.
Alternatively, learners who have relevant bookkeeping knowledge or practical experience may be considered for direct entry onto this qualification. In such cases, an initial assessment may be carried out to ensure the learner has the appropriate understanding to succeed at this level.
To support learning, a good standard of English and Maths is recommended, ideally at GCSE Grade 4 or equivalent.

Please note that individuals who have been declared bankrupt or who have a criminal record may not be accepted for IAB membership, which could affect eligibility to sit examinations. We recommend contacting the IAB directly for further advice and guidance.
One unit need to be completed:
Unit 1 – Prepare and appraise financial statements – Examination
This qualification is assessed through a single unit which focuses on the preparation and appraisal of financial statements in accordance with international accounting standards and IFRS principles. Learners will be required to demonstrate both technical knowledge and the ability to apply accounting concepts in the preparation and interpretation of financial reports.
The assessment covers the preparation of financial statements in line with recognised international standards, including the correct treatment of key accounting elements such as assets, liabilities, income, and expenses. Learners will also be expected to understand and apply IFRS principles when compiling financial information, ensuring that reports are accurate, consistent, and compliant with relevant standards.
In addition to preparation skills, learners will be tested on their ability to appraise financial statements. This includes interpreting financial data, identifying key information from reports, and making informed judgements about the financial position and performance of an organisation. This requires a clear understanding of how financial statements are used in a professional accounting context.
The assessment is completed through a final examination under controlled conditions, where learners must demonstrate both their knowledge of international accounting standards and their ability to apply this knowledge to practical scenarios.

The qualification is assessed using one main methods: a final examination.
The final examination is used to assess overall competence in a controlled, timed environment. This ensures that learners can demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills independently.
Pilot assessments are also available to support practice and revision before attempting the live assessments. These are not timed and can be repeated as needed to build confidence and understanding.
